When I finally get the opportunity to have a two bedroom apartment, I will devote the second bedroom to my home office. I already have items that are in this color family, so I’m set! It is such a calming yet fresh room – perfect for creative ideas. Plus, I love the bulletin board door – such a fun and practical idea.
I’m sitting in the Minneapolis airport which will be my new home for the next month with all the travel I am doing. Luckily there is a great shop with $10 accessories to occupy my time. Bijoux Terner has watches, scarfs, purses, and jewelry – all for $10. Most of the items are costume jewelry and accessories but that is exactly what you want – affordable items that will eventually go out of style. Next time you are at MSP, check it out!
Grilling season is just around the corner, and that means burgers, brats, and dogs – one of my favorite things about summer. This is a staple every year; however, I want something with low-fat and calories. My perfect solution is my mom’s turkey burgers. It is the easiest recipe, delicious, and only 90 calories! Can’t beat that.
1 pound lean ground turkey
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg white
1/4 to 1/2 cup fresh or dry bread crumbs
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1. Thoroughly combine all ingredients. Add enough bread crumbs to firm up the mixture.
2. Divide into 6 portions and form into patties
3. Grill, broil, or cook
Every girl wants to fall in love. If you don’t, then you are lying. Since falling in love isn’t as easy as the movies and tv shows make it out to be, I have resorted to the perfume. Philosophy’s Falling In Love collection is my favorite scent right now. They have perfume, lotions, body wash – everything you can image in a light scent that sticks with you throughout the day. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the aura, so check it out at http://www.philosophy.com/web/store/cat_fragrance-fallinginlove____24033_30502, and take a look at the other options while you are there!
I have purchased a new bed and bedspread, so in turn I have to redecorate my bedroom to reflect the new style. I went from brown tones to black, so it was a great opportunity to create some new art work. I wanted to do something unique but also cheap. I purchased various frames from T.J. Maxx Home, Michael’s, JoAnn’s, and Kohl’s – all under $8.00 – and bought some scrapbook paper to put in the frames. I think it turned out pretty nice and is a completely new look for my bedroom. Now if only I could paint the walls and somehow keep the frames straight…..hopefully in my next home.
On Sunday I went to the a craft show put on by the American Craft Council at the RiverCenter in St. Paul. It was like a mini art fair but indoors. Around every turn was something unique and beautiful from extraordinary pottery to children’s clothing to amazing jewelry. I ended up purchasing a small mint-colored plate and an adorable necklace. The necklace was made by Kimberly Geiser from Brooklyn, New York. Check out her site at http://www.artworksjewelry.com/kimberlygeiser.html for contemporary jewelry.
I was at the antique store last weekend and saw several wooden shutter sets. This picture came to mind. How cute is this organizational option? You could paint them various colors and put it above a desk, in the kitchen, or near your front door. It is a great alternative to piles of paper around the house!
Every time my mom comes into town we have to go to Gigi’s Cafe. It is located just a few blocks from my house and has AMAZING food. The cute cafe is open for breakfast and late night snacks – so you can get an omelet, delightful danish and bloody mary or gourmet salad, mouth-watering brownie and wine. Plus, the best part is the cost – it is super cheap and the menu is always changing. Check out their website at www.gigisuptown.com.
My friend, Neelie, told me about this amazing website. It is called “Young House Love” (www.younghouselove.com) and it is created by a woman who is inspiring people with home improvement and organization projects. She is recently married and starting her first new home with her husband, so it is fun to look at all the big and little projects they have done. I would HIGHLY recommend checking the site out, especially if there is a project you want to do and are not sure exactly how to go about starting and finishing flawlessly. I am currently working on upholstering chairs, and had a pretty good idea on how I wanted to go about doing it, but I checked the website to make sure. (More to come on the chairs! – They are looking good!!)
I always find myself drawn to unique dishes, and specifically plates. My favorite place to find fun dishware is the sales section at Anthropologie. My only problems are I don’t need that many dishes and I can’t decide between all the unique designs coming out each season. Well, I have found a solution. Check out this image from Real Simple. It is the perfect solution to display unique plates and create specialized artwork. I personally am going to look into doing this in my kitchen as opposed to the living room, but it is a great, affordable option for either.
