My Mom started saving $5 bills at Christmas, so every time she gets a $5 bill she puts it in an envelope. By now she has over $500! It is enough to add up quickly, but without all the space like quarters or other coins. I followed in her footsteps and started around Valentine’s Day. I’m not quite as far as she is, but I’m getting there. I still haven’t decided what I will do with the money – maybe a tropical vacation or a new piece of furniture or a puppy!
Last Thursday, Jamie and I attended one of the most amazing concerts. This was my sixth time seeing Eric Church perform live. He is so much fun to watch and his music reminds me of small town living, not that Green Bay is that small, but rather the small town mentality. I know what a lot of you are thinking – “I don’t like country music”, “This is a silly post”, “What’s up with the mustache” – but honestly just give it a listen. My favorite song on his new CD is Carolina, and not because of the name, but I also like Hell on the Heart and Ain’t Killed Me Yet. Give it a listen and pay attention to the lyrics – he has some good lines. If you don’t like it, fine, but you got to try it at least once! Listen to all his music at http://ericchurch.com/index.htm?id=15173&inc=7&album_id=1189.
Digs is by far the best fabric place in the Twin Cities. It has unique designs and the cutest decor. It is a bit of a drive, but definitely worth the trip! Check out their site at www.shopdigs.com.
If anyone knows me, they know I have not been a fan of children or animals; however, a lot has changed in my life lately. My new obsession is “Teddy Bear Puppies”, which are technically called Shichons (Shih tzu and Bichon-poo mix). I know I know, dogs are a big responsbility, but check out these facts about this unique breed:
- Teddy Bears are bred for their temperament, unlike most small dogs these days they are not high strung, and only bark occasionally when playing or if a stranger comes in your home unannounced.
- Teddy bears were originally bred for handicapped children, so they could hug and squeeze them with out getting a nip and struggle and instead get licks and love in return.
- Teddy bears have a rag doll feel to them, they’re hair comes in ether very soft and curly or a strait airy silky type, both hair types are very nice to the feel of them. Unlike any dog you may have petted in the past, they are also virtually hypoallergenic, and extremely affectionate.
- Teddy bears can learn tricks, and love to show off, they are great with people and love other pets, they like playing catch, love swimming and chasing people to lick them like crazy.
I recently signed up for the Iron Girl Duathalon (2 mile run, 22 mile bike, and 2 mile run). I received a training schedule when I signed up, which included at least 2 days a week of strength training. It was time to bust out my Jackie Warner Workout DVDs again. You may recognize her from Bravo’s Work Out, which showcases her intense training routine and eventful personal life. And when I say intense, I mean intense. These are by far the best workout DVDs I have used! All you need are two sets of weights and a DVD player and you will have defined muscles in no time. I know, I sounds like an infomercial, but it is that good, and the time go by so fast. It is a nice change of pace from the gym or during those unexpected rainy days.
I am fortunate to be surrounded by extremely creative friends. Many of them I worked with in previous positions. I want to shamelessly promote them, just as I shamelessly steal their ideas.
Abby Anderson specializes in floral design, but is seriously one of the most creative people I have ever met. Her blog, www.bloomingdesign.wordpress.com, is always inspiring, but check out her website at www.skinnerjones.com for her professional portfolio. If you are getting married and want a unique florist, Abby is defnitely the one to call!

Jodi Tupy creates printed designs as sweet as she is. Her website, www.tupyboutique.com, showcases her delicately designed wedding, baby, and greeting card collections. She can even customize a design especially for you.
I hope you enjoy their work as much as I do.
I was out and about today trying to find the perfect picture frames for a collage I am creating (inspired by a friend), when I came across the cutest antique store. Hunt & Gather has a colorful, inviting storefront, and an even more interesting interior. I spent nearly an hour wandering around the various rooms looking for a treasure, including a room devoted to letters – they had wooden letters, license plates cut into letters, and scrabble letters. I didn’t buy anything this time; however, I am definitely making a trip back in the near future. It is one of my new favorite shopping spots. Check out the website at www.hunandgatherantiques.com
When I decided to write a blog, the purpose was to share my favorite things with my friends, family, and acquaintances. Naturally, I wanted to call my blog something related to this concept, so I tried a few titles that I thought conveyed my message: “My Favorite Things”, “Raindrops on Roses” (Sound of Music reference), “C-Notes”, etc. You wouldn’t believe how many titles I had to go through before I thought of an obvious choice – Pistachio Ice Cream. Ice Cream is by far my favorite food, and pistachio hands down my favorite flavor, thus my blog was born. If you have not yet tried Pistachio Ice Cream, I would highly recommend it. My favorite place to enjoy this refreshing treat is Florence, Italy at a quaint ice cream shop such as the one below.
